Structural Engineering Project Examples
Kampden Residence

The owner of the Kampden residence was preparing to completely renovate an 1890 Federal-style home. She desired to create an energy efficient home with all new insulation, and better daylighting throughout the home. She also wanted to create a living (green) roof, where she could sit and enjoy the surrounding views.
Baldwin Commercial Building

A 38 kW solar PV system was to be installed on the roof of the Baldwin commercial building. A project of this size (180 panels) required a structural analysis to determine which solar PV racking system would work best for the roof’s structure. A ballasted system was desired (panels held to the roof with weights), but it was unknown if the roof could handle the increase in loads, and The Milovia Group was hired to analyze the roof and recommend the best system available.
Martin Residence

The Martin Residence had a solar PV system improperly installed on their home one year ago, and unfortunately has had many problems since then. Multiple roof leaks had occurred, damaging several areas of her home. The Milovia Group was called in to perform an investigative analysis of the system and offer any recommendations.

Design Project Examples
Freeman Residence
The Freeman's were on a tight schedule - They were expecting their second child, and they really wanted to quickly build a home to get out of their small apartment. They visited a builder, chose a home design and paid for all of the plans. When they tried to get a construction loan, they needed to decrease the square footage of the home in order to secure the mortgage. Faced with the dilemma of having already paid for the plans, they decided to remove the ceiling above the living room, eliminating a 4th bedroom and lowering the square footage of the home. This created a 2-story high cathedral ceiling above the living room and dining room. It was at this point that they contacted the Milovia Group, hoping to receive guidance for their home.
Davis Residence

The Davis' have been dreaming of building their own home for many years, and provided the Milovia Group with a rough sketch of their dream home. The home will sit far from the road next to a nice protected grove of fir trees, and will have plenty of southern exposure. One writes fiction, the other is a master gardener, and both are avid readers. Both also love to cook, and store their food from the garden for the winter. As such, cooking and sitting down to eat in a comfortable, sunny spot is of much importance to them both.
